This is the United States premiere of Interpreting Bardem by Jacques Demierre and Vincent Barras, a piece for 6 voices. It includes, besides the duo, the participation of four simultaneous interpreters: Anna Homler/ Will Alexander/ Chelsea Rector & Mathew Timmons, each of whom have developed a nuanced devotion to exploring a personal relationship to language. These four “interpreters” will be listening to the performance of the text-score performed live by Jacques and Vincent, and simultaneously deliver interpretations of that “speech” – translating speech at the moment of its realization as a sound event.

It is not only the “meaning” but also the “total sound” dimension of the artists’ speech that is at once highlighted and amplified by the work of the interpreters.

After the premiere, we will have mixed groupings of improvisations with the six performers.

This is an extraordinary opportunity to experience the performance of language with a variety of dedicated virtuosos.
